Shopping for your items

So I guess you've already decided what you want to do and the kinds of projects. So now it's time to go shopping!

First of all since you've figured the sort of project and the kinds of beads you want then why not start off with having your shopping list. As I've already listed the basic things you need so put them as the first ones in your list. Then list the beads you want to use consider the color, size and the type of bead you want to work on. Try putting a beading magazine like beadstyle mags to help you in your design and they have some tutorials too. Not to forget coupons for special discounts in some stores and items you might need. Beading with just beads is beautiful but you might want to add some spacers or some other decorative jewels to your piece to make it exquisitely beautiful.

Having a list before you shop will help keep you on your budget and prevent any impulsive buying like what I felt the first time I went to shop for my items which made me buy some stuff I don't really need and it went overboard with my budget. I was so amazed with what I saw at Wellmanson's ( a local shop here in the Philippines where you'll find the beads and findings you need. They have two branches one in Tabora, Divisoria and the other one at Villalobos St. near Quiapo church.

So always remember have your shopping list to keep your wallets safe and leave you with no regrets. Happy beading!

Things to consider before beading

There are certain things you need to consider when you start beading which will make or break the outcome of your beading projects.

Color combination is the first thing you have to put in mind. No matter how precious or how skillful you weave your beads it will not attract people when the colors you used doesn't compliment each other. One of the best beauty enhancer of a beaded jewelry or accessory is the color combination. Try seasonal colors since they are simple and of course being seasonal means trendy at their specific time. Like green and red for the Christmas season. If your not too keen in mixing colors I suggest you check out food magazines since part of culinary expertise is presentation so the blending of their colors is also great for accessories. When you go to the malls try checking out craft store or clothing line themes for you to have an idea of the present trend and the "in" style.

Style is also one of the important things before you begin your project. If you're not to good at imagining the design and style of your jewelry check out celebrities in magazines, what they usually wear in commercials or try checking out online patterns and designs. Even cartoon shows or anime shows will give you some fantastic ideas for a design and of course color combination too.

Tools need not be expensive as long as they're sturdy and handy. Improvising for some tools you need will cut the expense and help you save some more budget which you can use to buy for your beads and lines. If you have paper tape measures on hand well you need not buy a beading board all you have to do is find a felt paper and attach you paper tape measure on one side and there you go your very own beading board.

Perfect lighting is an essential thing for you especially if your beading time is at night as most stay at home moms do. Having deem light when beading is dangerous for your eye's health and will make you prone to mistakes will can waste your time and effort even your materials.

Workspace need not be too big since what you need is to be comfortable when your beading. Comfort will help extend your patience and will make your beading time enjoyable. Table should be at the right level where you can see your beads properly without the need for you to bend low. Bending low while beading will make your back ache so better get a table with the right height which will make you comfortable while your sitting. Your seat should be at least foamed and has a backrest. The foam will keep you butt from being numb from the long time you'll be spending while beading and the backrest will help you relax your back.

So always remember color combination to make your project lovely and attractive. Style to make it trendy. Tools that are handy. Lighting and a comfortable workspace to keep you healthy and relaxed. You got this then you're good to go. Happy beading!

Beading Kits

Beading kits are the things you need and use to make your beaded jewelry, adornments and other stuffs you want to bead about. There are different kinds of kits on sale on online shops, ebay and even some online classified ads. Some beads and finding suppliers also create their own beading kit for starters with a free instructional guide. This kinds of kits are for those who are beginners in beading. So what are the things you should include in your kit? And how much does a kit cost?

Your kit should contain the following:

BEADS - these are your gems crystals even silvers. Like what I said in my previous post about choosing the kind of beads. Usually starter beading kits contain glass beads, seed beads and some mixed semi precious beads weighing from 5g to 10g depending on the price and the kind of beads the supplier has prepared. Even color is also pre-selected but other shops allow you to choose your own colors like what I will be implementing in my future bead shop so watch out for my shop.

CLASPS and FINDINGS - these ranges from silver plated to vintage types. These are your lobster clasps or the locks for your jewelry pieces. Not only are they your locks there are also what we usually call as findings which are headpins, jumprings or drops which can enhance the beauty of your beaded accessories.

CRIMPING BEADS - often used in stringing beads. It holds the ends of the strings to create a loop for the clasps of the jewelry.

STRING - ranges from wire, nylon, leatherette, thread, tigertails and fish lines. These are used to hold your beads when stringing. Even when weaving they hold your beads in place. If your making beaded animals which are round and fluffy I suggest that you use nylon because flexible wires will make your animals flat.

PLIERS - there are two kinds of pliers that you need the round nosed and the flat nosed
pliers. They are used to make loops, twist and bend your wires and hold your beads.

CUTTERS - wire cutter  for your flexible wires and a sharp pair of scissors for your nylon or threads.

CONTAINERS - you will have to choose containers that allows you to see the contents inside. It should have compartments to help you sort out your beads by colors and type of beads. It will make it easier for you to choose the beads your going to use.

TRAYS, BOARDS or MATS - these are optional materials but are very useful. These items will help keep your beads from rolling and falling off your working area. Beading boards have compartments where you can place the beads you're going to use. It also contains a measuring rule to help you make your designs even. Don't have budget for mats or boards well I have a good news for you since there are other items you can use as an alternative for them or you can make one for yourself.

So there you go I've already enumerized the things you have to include in your beading kit and have included why you need these items. I will further tell you what else you need to know about these items in my future post so keep on reading.
